 Lily is a 1956 Corvette. In 1956 the Corvette matured from a stylish cruiser into a credible American sports car.

• Landmark redesign: The 1956 introduced the classic sculpted side coves, exposed headlights and cleaner body that defined the early Corvette.
• Real everyday equipment: Earlier Corvettes had side curtains and lacked exterior door handles. The 1956 gained roll-up glass windows, exterior handles and a properly integrated convertible top.
• V8 power became standard: Every 1956 Corvette used Chevrolet’s 265-cubic-inch small-block V8. The standard version produced 210 hp.
• Proper three-speed manual: The manual made the light, approximately 2,730-pound Corvette considerably more involving than the optional two-speed Powerglide. It is important to note that 1956 cars had a three-speed, not a four-speed; the four-speed became available during 1957.
• Very low overall production: Chevrolet built only 3,467 Corvettes for 1956, making it one of the lowest-production model years in Corvette history.
• Beginning of Corvette racing: Zora Arkus-Duntov pushed the redesigned Corvette into competition. Corvette set records at Daytona and earned significant SCCA success during 1956, establishing the performance identity the marque still carries.
